Awesome VLN season comes to an icy end

1 Nov 2012

The VLN season draws to an icy close after racing with Rob Smith in his V6 Class BMW M3 for the majority of the season. The series has faced us with some of the most fierce competition in the VLN series, where we were regularly competing against over 20 cars, making it the largest class in the series. Rob started the season with a number of different co-drivers and I was fortunate enough to be asked to join him from the third race of the season through the last meeting of the year in October. Since joining Rob, we have managed to secure a number of fantastic achievements including a pole position in class, a number of podium finishes and regularly battling with the top class teams throughout the races. The experienced German teams and drivers have been intrigued with our us turning up as a new British team operating from only a small van and trailer, three mechanics and all with a limited amount of Nurburgring experience. However, we managed to compete hard and learn quickly during the season, resulting in others being pushed to up their game in the pursuit to win the class.

The last round of the season was a little disappointing. After a good day of wet weather testing on the Friday, it began to snow through the night which then rapidly turned into ice. After a number of hours delaying the race start the VLN management took the decision to cancel the race to all 170+ teams disappointment.

We look forward to next season where Rob shall be stepping the team up a class to complete his BMW M3 GTR in the SP6 class.
